It is only because of relentless desire to understand and fathom the infinite “Brusm,” one embarks on the path of meditation. The meditation effort enables the mind to empty its contents and house Brusm in it. The intellect starts to understand the content of the mind and eventually becomes the same. The mind and intellect become one element. It is true that this understanding will be limited, based only upon the limitedness of the one’s intellect.
One empties the mind by contemplating upon sounds representing the various efforts involved in the process of un-manifestation of the Creation, and eventually arriving at what was there before manifestation -- “Soundlessness, the Brusm prior to the first movement within.”
These sounds are grouped in the following five sentences. “Aham” in this case, is the limited self, the human life form on this earth wishing to fathom the infinite “Brusm.” These sounds have the same meaning as described on “Today’s Thought” page under Un-manifestation of Creation blog:
Aham samarpayami Bhumyai Adbhyah Agnaye Vayave Aakashaya swaahaa
Aham antarliye Omkare Tamasa Rajasa Satvena
Aham antarliya Deyee Shivoham
Aham antarliya Prabhasu Tapasi Pranavah
Param Aham Sah
Usually, one will sit crossed-legged, arms and hands stretched over knees, middle finger and thumb touching, back stretched straight upwards, and eyes closed. In this posture, one feels light-weighted and remains balanced in and out. Closed eyes should be focused in front of the center of your forehead. Contemplate on each word sound in the first sentence and empty your mind of all that each word sound represents. For example, for the word sound “Bhumyai” – Earth, identify in your mind all things this Earth means to you, both at the micro and the macro level of existence, contemplate on each identified item, and then void your mind of all the identified items. One will exercise one’s intellect to direct the mind to void the item. Having done that successfully for each word sound in the first sentence, repeat the same process for each of the word sound for the next three sentences. Once you have exhausted all that is in the first four sentences, all that will remain is what is in the fifth sentence -- the infinite “I,” Brusm. And you are That! Do not let your mind waver from that one single thought; you will use your intellect to stay at this single thought in your mind.
One should not get disheartened or discouraged. It will take years of relentless practice to achieve this goal. Eventually, a moment will arrive when you will be able to instantly fathom in your mind what the fifth sentence is all about, “Param Aham Sah” by just making these sounds in your mind at the direction of your intellect. One will not have the need to go through the effort of first four sentences.
